Hours: a minimum of 10-15/week, those hours may be worked in any combination at the discretion of the intern and the supervisor.

Oregon Environmental Council (OEC) is recruiting a Legislative Research Intern to assist our Legislative Director with preparing OEC’s 2011 legislative agenda and ongoing research needs. The individual will be responsible for developing communications outreach tools to legislators. This is a great opportunity to experience working in a nonprofit environment while enhancing legislative research and communications skills. The right candidate would be encouraged to extend the internship to the 2011 session and assist the Legislative Director with lobbying duties in Salem and/or continue research up in Portland to assist with lobbying research needs.

The Intern will: Reach out to volunteers to encourage legislative participation at legislator town hall meetings; Research and develop new programs for OEC’s membership to engage with legislators during the interim; Research grasstops information; Research state natural resource agency revenue resource options; Assist legislative director and programs directors with research to develop legislative agenda; Assist in brainstorming concepts for upcoming projects; Assist with special projects as needed or as specific interests develop; Perhaps assist with lobbying duties during the 2011 legislative session

Qualifications: Some campaign, political or legislative experience required; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to manage multiple projects; Ability to synthesize, analyze information and communicate it to diverse audiences; Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills; Professional demeanor; Willingness to learn

The intern must be organized, detail-oriented, possess strong written and verbal communications skills. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, motivated and possess the desire to produce excellent work. This role requires the ability to take initiative, work independently and synthesize information with little direction.
