position summary:

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is seeking an OMNIMAX Projectionist. This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of theater technical systems with the goal of presenting films promptly and at the highest levels of picture and sound quality for the benefit of OMSI visitors.

The Essential Duties & Responsibilities include operating a complex variety of equipment in the presentation of theater programs for OMSI visitors, performing spot diagnostics and minor maintenance on theater equipment to the level of training and expertise directed by the Lead Projectionist, coordinating film timing and cueing between projection booth, Visitor Services, and theater ushers to ensure presentation quality and maximize the overall audience experience, and maintaining film prints and soundtracks in the best possible manner to prevent damage and avoid wear. This position is regular part-time, scheduled for 20 hours per week and is non-exempt, paid hourly.

Salary / Pay Rate:$9.42 - $11.30/hour
Required Skills and Abilities:Basic requirements for knowledge/skills/abilities include demonstrated ability to master the operation and maintenance of technical equipment, aptitude to rapidly learn new programs and equipment, capability to handle multiple challenges simultaneously and make quick, appropriate decisions under pressure, above average communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, experience with PC’s including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, ability to periodically lift heavy items up to 50lbs and carry weight a minimum of 10 ft, ability to climb long flights of stairs, exceptional record of punctuality and reliability and must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Previous IMAX projection experience and background in one or more related technical areas such as electronics; 16mm/35mm film projection; electrical; HVAC; computers; information technology; audio engineering are preferred.
Qualifications:Basic requirements for education and work experience include background and interest in current technology, with a demonstrated ability to handle and operate electronic and mechanical equipment, experience with audio-visual and computer equipment and a high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 months or more of customer service experience and some post-secondary or advanced technical education are preferred.
