position summary:

Health In Harmony is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to provide leadership and foster success for Health In Harmony's annual fundraising and a comprehensive campaign to fund the construction and operations of an eco-friendly hospital in rural Indonesia. This position is located in Portland, OR, and will require a flexible 30-40 hours per week (negotiable) working from a home office, with occasional travel within the United States. The Development Director will work in tandem with Health In Harmony’s Executive Director and a committed board and volunteer base.

Health In Harmony (HIH) is a U.S.-based, 501(c)(3) organization that supports Project ASRI, an innovative program in rural West Kalimantan, Indonesia. ASRI integrates care for human and environmental health by partnering with local communities to provide high-quality, affordable healthcare while protecting the threatened rainforest. In 2007, ASRI opened a clinic offering medical and dental care to the people of that region. ASRI enables local villagers to pay for their healthcare by working on a range of environmental conservation projects aimed at preserving the local rainforest. HIH’s primary goal for the next five years is to raise funds to help ASRI build an eco-friendly teaching hospital. This facility will not only provide medical care but will also train doctors and healthcare workers to replicate this model in other parts of the world, to protect threatened environments while caring for the medical needs of the planet’s poorest people.

Tasks will include: • Coordinating and supporting all fundraising activities • Devising strategy to steward and expand the existing donor base; involving staff, board and volunteers in this work • Devising strategy to strengthen relationships with, and solicit gifts from major donors; involving staff, board and volunteers in this work • Developing and maintaining relations with granting organizations • Planning fundraising events in various cities within the US • Refining the draft structure for a successful 5-year, $5 million comprehensive campaign; implementing the campaign • Travel as necessary to meet with donors and implement events • Supporting organizational budgeting process and financial audit process

Salary / Pay Rate:Commensurate with experience and local norms for comparable positions; no additional benefits.
Required Skills and Abilities:The ideal candidate for the position will have the following characteristics: • Five or more years fundraising experience, including grassroots fundraising, major donor relations, grants and capital/comprehensive campaigns • An understanding of developing world issues; strong environmental/conservation ethic • Exceptional organizational skills, communication abilities, warmth, and compassion • Excellent writing skills • Experience addressing both large and small audiences and working with a variety of constituencies • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with partners and constituents across the United States and abroad • Computer literate, with knowledge of standard applications and access to high-speed Internet • Ability to work from their home office in Portland, OR; availability to meet with team members on a weekly or twice weekly basis; flexibility to travel occasionally within the United States
