position summary:

nConnect’s Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, screening, training, and supporting employers and volunteers for all of nConnect’s programs.

The position will recruit employers and volunteers to provide career related learning experiences such as mentoring, job shadows, mock interviews, company tours, internships, and others; screen volunteers; provide appropriate training to volunteers; and, provide ongoing support and technical assistance to volunteers and employers to ensure a positive experience for the volunteers and students. Position will also support organizational fund development activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

1. Develop and implement a recruiting strategy outlining regional STEM businesses. Work closely with local partners involved in business recruiting and outreach, including the SW Washington Industry Engagement Team, the Business Services Units at Worksource, local economic development organizations, and other regional partners as appropriate.

2. Train employers and volunteers on expectations and best practices related to specific career related learning experiences to ensure a positive experience for all parties.

3. Perform volunteer screening activities including volunteer background checks. Document that background checks were performed and passed.

4. Train employers and volunteers on how to use the BizConnect database; support employers and volunteers with data entry in the BizConnect database as needed.

5. Develop employer and volunteer marketing materials as needed.

6. Monitor employer and volunteer engagement with participants by reviewing volunteer survey results, observing CRLE activities, conducting site visits as applicable, and performing other trouble shooting and support as needed.

7. Maintain records for all participating mentors and volunteers.

8. Collect data and conduct analyses on volunteer and programmatic activities, including pre- and post-program surveys. Write reports for various audiences.

9. Represent and market nConnect NW in the business community. Travel to businesses and attend events to network and recruit potential business sponsors and volunteers.

10. Support organizational fund development initiatives related to the business community.

11. Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL WORK PERFORMED:

1. Works closely with staff and partners to ensure program participants and stakeholders are satisfied with program services.

2. Attends meetings, workshops, seminars; keeps current with trends and practices relative to the mission and goals of the organization.

3. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs wide variety of duties necessary to the efficient management of the organization and its programs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a fast-paced office setting; however, external contacts necessitate some travel mostly in southwest Washington and the Portland metro region. Position requires flexibility and adaptability.

Salary / Pay Rate:Salary commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package.
Required Skills and Abilities:Excellent sales and communication skills, especially telephone sales skills. Must be good at networking.
Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have: • Baccalaureate degree from a credited institution • Minimum of two years experience in related position • Excellent computer skills in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word • Demonstrated relationship building skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Strong organizational skills • Knowledge of STEM businesses in the region • Current driver’s license and insured automobile Preferred qualifications include: • Experience recruiting industry volunteers • Experience working with mentoring or internship programs • Background and/or knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math • Experience with fund development • Familiarity with and/or residence in Southwest Washington or northern Oregon • Experience in website maintenance
