Love Your River Outreach Intern

Commitment: May - August 2010 Hours: approx 10 - 15 hours/wk Application Deadline: May 20, 2010

The Oregon Environmental Council’s Clean & Healthy Rivers Program is seeking applications for a volunteer intern who will help design and launch a new outreach and education program called Love Your River.

In order to create long-term improvements in water quality, stream flows, and fish and wildlife habitat, the Love Your River education and outreach campaign will engage the public in watershed stewardship. The project will include an online educational resource and a multifaceted outreach campaign to drive homeowners, river recreationalists, and other members of the public to a new loveyourriver.org website. The campaign will reach people who generally care about rivers, and help them understand that we all live in a watershed and have a personal impact on the rivers we love. Incentives and fun information will help participants increase awareness, change behaviors, and increase involvement in watershed stewardship.

The Love Your River Outreach Intern will build relationships with river enthusiasts, such as paddling and boating clubs, flyfishing groups, outfitters, and recreation businesses. These outreach partners will help spread the word to their members and customers about the Love Your River campaign.

Desirable skills: •An outgoing “people person” •Good verbal and written communication skills •Some personal experience with and knowledge of Oregon’s river recreation communities •Education and experience in environmental issues and public education and/or social marketing for behavior change.

To apply please submit a letter of interest and your resume to Ashley Hollenbeck at [email protected] by May 20, 2010 for consideration.
