Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp, a non-profit organization serving youth 11 to 16 in an overnight, summer camp and year-round mentoring program, is hiring for summer 2010. This is our first session of YEA Camp in Portland and this summer we will serve 18 youth and will have 4 counselors in addition to kitchen staff and two supervisors.

YEA Camp Portland runs August 14-21, 2010 in Molalla, OR (25 miles from Portland). In addition to camp, there will be a 3-day staff training August 11-13th before camp.

We are intending to pay staff a small stipend; however this depends on fundraising and attendance. We strongly encourage candidates to apply who have an interest in publicizing, doing outreach, and helping fundraise for camp before camp starts to help make camp a success. If funding is available, staff will be paid at the rate of $50 per day.

Required Skills and Abilities:YEA Camp seeks: -Camp counselors excited to work with youth and to collaborate to strengthen our curriculum, and learn new skills to empower youth to make a difference on the issues they care about. -Counselors will commit to mentoring 2 to 3 youth after camp ends to help the mentees bring their plans into action. Mentoring will take place over phone calls, and in several reunions during the year. Counselors will be coached throughout their mentoring by a YEA Camp director. The time commitment is approximately 1/2 to 1 hour per week.
Qualifications:YEA Camp is seeking candidates with strong backgrounds in: -Successfully working with youth in a supportive environment -A history of engaging in social, political, environmental or other activism, community organizing, or other forms of engagement for social change -A desire to bring the skills and ideas learned in working to make a difference to the next generation of leaders and change-makers -Working collaboratively with others, using non-violent or other progressive communication -Outstanding interpersonal skills and a desire to have LOTS of fun! -A vision for the transformation of our communities, ourselves, and our planet -Trainings in youth empowerment or other youth work -CPR/First Aid/Food Handlers card are a plus -Preference for counselors with previous camp staff experience Background checks will be conducted
