position summary:

Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp, a non-profit organization serving youth 11 to 16 in an overnight, summer camp and year-round mentoring program, is hiring for summer 2010. This is our first session of YEA Camp in Portland and this summer we will serve 18 youth and will have 4 counselors in addition to 2 kitchen staff and two supervisors.

YEA Camp Portland runs August 14-21, 2010 in Molalla, OR (25 miles from Portland). In addition to camp, there will be a 3-day staff training weekend August 11-13th before camp.

Salary / Pay Rate:$100/day head, $50/day assistant
Required Skills and Abilities:Head Chef will: -Plan vegan menus for breakfast, snack, lunch and dinner for whole camp (approx 25 people per meal) -Prepare shopping lists and procure supplies and food for camp kitchen -Prepare all meals and supervise kitchen volunteers and Kitchen assistant -Supervise and ensure the cleanliness of the camp kitchen at all times Assistant chef will: -Assist in meal planning and shopping -Prepare meals under the direction of head chef -Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the camp kitchen at all times
Qualifications:YEA Camp is seeking head chef candidates who: -Have at least one year of professional experience planning and cooking for groups of 20+ people in a commercial kitchen -Have experience with vegan cooking and meal preparation -Have Oregon Food Handlers Card -Have great, creative ideas for vegan meals that young people will really love -Enjoy working in a collaborative, fun and supportive environment -Have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with youth -Preference for previous camp, school or youth center kitchen experience or have some experience working with youth Background checks will be conducted YEA is seeking candidates for assistant chef who: -Have professional experience preparing and cooking food for large numbers of people in a commercial kitchen -Experience or desire to learn about vegan cooking -Have successful experience working collaboratively with others -Preference for those who have cooked in a setting with youth (youth center, camp, school, etc.) -Have strong interpersonal skills and a desire to have fun! -Have Oregon food handlers card Background checks will be conducted
