position summary:

Whitman SUN School is seeking passionate individuals to teach fun classes to students in grades 1-5 during our summer session. A few examples of previous classes include recycle art, hip-hop dance, foreign language, yoga, computers, martial arts, music, hands-on science, puppetry, etc. We are very open to hearing about other class ideas you may have and would like to bring to our summer programming.

The summer session is held Monday through Thursday 8:30am-1:00pm from June 21st through July 23rd, with the possibility to continue the following school-year.

LOCATION: Whitman Elementary School 7326 SE Flavel St Portland OR 97206

Job Requirements: Must be able to supervise 12-18 children ages 6-12. Must be able to communicate effectively to colleagues, parents, children and supervisors. Must be able to complete and pass an Oregon Background check including fingerprinting prior to start date. Educational experience a huge plus.

We prefer candidates with the following: -Experience working with school aged children and providing academic and recreational activities to students in after-school and/or summer school environments. -Experience and the ability to develop your own curriculum in particular area of expertise. (This can be whatever subject you are passionate about, a few examples include recycle art, hip-hop dance, yoga, computers, martial arts, hands-on science, etc.) -Desire and ability to work with children to ensure an enriching, positive, and safe classroom setting.
