Grassroots soccer tournament and fundraiser

On Saturday May 22nd (coming right up), the Alameda Soccer Club will be hosting the first annual 3v3 Kick-AIDS Barefoot Soccer Tournament, at the Madeleine School Field from 12-4.

There will be four separate brackets; Girls and Boys, at both U9 (2nd & 3rd graders) and U11 (4th & 5th graders). Participants must be PYSA-registered recreational players from Fall 2009. Each team can have 3 to 5 players.

This first year we have a limit of 20 teams, so if you'd like to enter a team, you should act quickly to reserve a spot. Teams are being accepted in the order in which registration forms are received. The cost per team is $65, and includes t-shirts for participants.

All proceeds will benefit Grassroot Soccer (www.grassrootsoccer.org), using the power of soccer to fight against HIV and AIDS in Africa.

More details can be found on the home page of Alameda Soccer Club, or download this Word document for full FAQs, the registration form, waiver, and game rules for the barefoot tournament.

This is a jamboree-style event and will be fun for everyone. As well as the U9 and U11 tournaments, there will be side contests, snacks, music, raffles, and exhibition play by some of the Portland Timbers. We will also be collecting lightly-used soccer and athletic equipment to ship to needy kids in Africa, so please bring along any out-grown gear you'd like to donate.

Hope to see you there!
