PCASC Part-time External Organizer

Executive Summary: Founded in 1979, the Portland Central America Solidarity Committee educates and mobilizes community members, workers and students around struggles for human rights and social justice throughout the Americas. The External Organizer advances PCASC's mission through reaching out to stakeholders in the community, promoting the work of PCASC, and inviting volunteers, donors, and partners into the organization. This organizer is responsible for implementing PCASC's immigrant rights campaign, accounting, database, and finance management, and works closely with the Internal Organizer and the Board of Directors to ensure the financial sustainability of PCASC through fundraising.

Details:

This position is part-time at 20 hours per week. Organizer reports to the Board of Directors. Compensation is

$13,000/year.

Responsibilities:

Organizing:

The external coordinator will be responsible for coordinating PCASC's Immigrants' Rights Campaign which includes:

* Coordinating community engagement efforts in the Latino community around racial profiling and the impact of police/Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) collaboration * Coordinate ongoing efforts to educate the ally community around issues of racial justice, particularly the impacts of police/ICE collaboration and the criminalization of immigrants. * Work with the Safe Communities Project to end police/ICE collaboration in Portland and continue to represent PCASC as an organizational ally to the immigrants rights struggle. *

They will also be responsible for coordinating the following general PCASC activities:

* Conduct community outreach and public presentations; recruit volunteers, supporters, and organizational partners. * Coordinate monthly membership meetings including agenda development, outreach to committee members, and facilitation as necessary. * Ensure that new volunteers and members are orientated to PCASC, are aware of opportunities to get involved, and that they are encouraged and supported through leadership development. * Manage process for event sponsorships that fall outside of normal PCASC programming. *

Fundraising:

The external coordinator will work with board and staff to implement fundraising plan.

* Ensure that necessary grant proposals are written, submitted, and reported on in a timely manner; coordinate with subcommittees to write grants funding specific programs. * Oversee on-going fundraising events throughout the year including one large and various small fundraising events/activities.

Administration:

* Fulfill PCASC accounting duties, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll taxes, and tracking of the use of funds * Coordinate with the volunteer accountant and board treasurers to ensure responsible use of funds and internal financial controls, including budget and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. * Manage the PCASC membership database and membership dues; track income from individual donors. * General office upkeep- supply ordering, etc.

General:

* Meet regularly with the Internal Organizer to coordinate shared duties, develop work plans, and provide feedback and accountability. * Work to fulfill program plans and strategic plans developed by the membership and board at planning retreats. * Attend monthly board meetings and report on fulfillment of goals and on the financial state of PCASC.

Requirements:

* Experience with Immigrants' Rights work A MUST * Minimum 2 years experience in community organizing * Fundraising experience * Bilingual- English/Spanish

Preferred:

Self-motivated, well-organized, with strong leadership qualities and the ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

Understanding of the intersections of immigrants rights and global justice.

Experience working with communities of color and working people

Training or experience with anti-racism and anti-oppression work

Extensive experience with volunteer outreach, recruitment, and coordination

Experience with writing grant proposals

Experience with office management and accounting

Computer literacy, specifically in Microsoft Word, Wordpress, Filemaker Pro, Adobe Suite

A two-year commitment to the Portland solidarity community
