Volunteer and English Language Learner Coordinator

Position Title: Volunteer and English Language Learner Coordinator Reports To: Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY: This full-time position encompasses two specific work responsibilities:

1. The Champions for Early Childhood Education Volunteer Coordinator will inspire older adults to volunteer in Adelante Mujeres’ Early Childhood Education program. Key components of the job include the recruitment, selection, training, tracking, recognition and ongoing support of volunteers for the Champions for Early Childhood Education Project. Several hours a week will also be dedicated to matching and tracking volunteers for the entire organization. (.5FTE) 2. The English Language Learner Coordinator forms part of the Adult Education Team. He/she will provide high quality English language instruction to Spanish-speaking adult women whose English language skills and formal education vary considerably. Key components of the job include ongoing assessment and planning to assure the best service possible, creating a highly supportive learning environment responsive to students’ experiences and needs. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities of Champions for Early Childhood Education Volunteer Coordinator:

 Work closely with Adelante Mujeres Early Childhood Education staff and Executive Director to assure key project objectives are met

 Conduct volunteer recruitment, orientation, training and support

 Review and update Volunteer Manual as needed

 Maintain and track records of volunteers, their assignments and hours at all stages of the volunteer process

 Maintain inventory of needed supplies for volunteers in the Champions Project

 Establish and maintain liaison with volunteer organizations in the community or online, including the Oregon Community Foundation’s Learning Community

 Coordinate with Adelante Mujeres’ Executive Director, staff, and Board Members to promote volunteerism within the organization

Primary Responsibilities of ELL Coordinator:

 As part of the Adult Education Team, support planning and execution of Adelante Educación activities and events

 Establish a well-managed, student-oriented learning environment for the provision of high quality ELD instruction - one beginning and one intermediate level English Language Development class of six hours each weekly during the school year, and alternative English development opportunities during the summer months

 Create engaging lesson plans, administer required assessments and maintain progress and student tracking records

 Recruit, organize and track volunteer tutors for the ELL program during the year, including English-Spanish exchange partners and language tutors during the summer

 Coordinate opportunities for students to be involved in community events where they can utilize and practice their English skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 Leadership, enterprise, creativity and ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with volunteers, colleagues, and students

 Minimum of one to two years experience providing English Language instruction, and recruiting and supporting volunteers

 Commitment to Popular Education teaching methodology

 Strong organizational and management skills, including program planning, facilitation, time management, training, supervising, and ability to prioritize multiple and varied responsibilities and meet deadlines

 Experience with diverse populations, particularly people of color, immigrants, people with limited economic resources

 Ability to work a flexible schedule including long hours when needed, an average of one early morning or weeknight per week and at least one week-end per month

 Excellent persuasive written and oral communication skills, including public speaking

 Enthusiasm for and commitment to the mission of Adelante Mujeres

 Bilingual-Bicultural Spanish/English skills

 Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher or similar programs

 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

 Knowledge of progressive issues and organizations, both locally and nationally

 Knowledge of Best Practices in Education

 Sense of humor, flexibility and willingness to pitch in wherever necessary

Salary and Benefits: $33,000 to $37,000 depending on experience Employee health and dental insurance coverage Four-week vacation, sick leave, paid holidays
