position summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator will create a volunteer management system tailored to meet the needs of the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods. S/he will help to put in place an ongoing system for the assessment of the organization’s volunteer needs, volunteer recruitment, volunteer support and volunteer appreciation. Volunteers play key roles in every aspect of the organization and help us in our critical work of making inner N/NE Portland increasingly livable for all. A Volunteer Management Systems will help us use volunteers more effectively and provide a better experience for both the volunteers and the organization.

General Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to): 1. Interview staff members to assess the volunteer needs of the organization and each program. 2. Interview staff members to assess the volunteer supervision capacity of the organization. 3. Research best practices for volunteer management. 4. Develop a plan for volunteer recruitment. 5. Create necessary materials for volunteer recruitment 6. Develop a volunteer intake system, possible components include an application, interview process, orientation process, and documentation 7. Create a volunteer retention system, including assessment from both staff and volunteers perspectives. 8. Create a volunteer appreciation and recognition program. 9. Begin implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the volunteer management system. 10. Plan for the sustainability of the program after the end of the LINKS project. 11. Complete and submit all necessary LINKS AmeriCorps Program paperwork and reports in a timely manner. 12. Attend and complete LINKS AmeriCorps Program orientation and enrollment session. 13. Wear an appropriate LINKS identifier and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.

Salary / Pay Rate:$1800 educational award and $100 per month stipend
Required Skills and Abilities:Requirements: 1. LINKS members must be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrollment in the program. 2. U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. 3. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award. 4. Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying. 5. Submit to a criminal history background check and National Sex Offender Registry search. 6. Regular and reliable attendance.
Qualifications:Preferred Qualifications: 1. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. 2. Experience serving as and working with volunteers. 3. Leadership experience. 4. Research skills. 5. Ability to work well in a team. 6. Time management and organizational skills. 7. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks. 8. Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups. 9. An understanding of the value of community service. 10. Excellent customer service and phone etiquette. 11. Familiarity with office environments, phone and computer systems. 12.
