Special PSU courses inspired by Senator Mark O. Hatfield

Here are a special set of PA and CCJ summer term courses inspired by the leadership legacy of Senator Mark O. Hatfield.

The Hatfield Summer Institute for 2010 is entitled “Innovations in Public Leadership for the Common Good.”

When: The kick-off symposium is on June 18 (8:30AM to 5PM). It includes a keynote speaker, panel discussions of Senator Hatfield’s leadership legacy, and discussions of core values needed for successful public service. During the summer, six courses organized around the symposium explore in greater detail successful leadership innovations that are a hallmark of Senator Mark Hatfield’s courageous 46 year career in public service. The Hatfield Leadership Legacy’s Core Values:  Social Justice (i.e., health care promotion, tribal sovereignty, eliminating racial discrimination and promoting socio-economic equity) Place-based Public Problem Solving (i.e., the role of nonprofits in building social capacity and civic engagement, managing the competing purposes of the Columbia River Basin) Environmental Stewardship (The Gorge Commission, BPA’s role in fish mitigation, sustainable forest practices) Collaborative Approaches to International Relations (leadership that promotes collaborative and cooperation rather than confrontational strategies within and among nation states)

·         Collaborative Governance: Theory and Practice with Craig Shinn, Laurel Singer, & Jamie Damon (PA099/410/510 Section HSE)

·         Leadership in Corporate Crime Reform with Danielle McGurrin (CCJ099/410/510 Section HSB)

·         Leadership for Sustainable Development: A Pilot Application of the New EMERGE Framework and Tools with Marcus Ingle & Kristen Magis (PA099/410/510 Section HSA)
