Broadway Rose Theatre Offers Summer Drama Camps and Teen Workshop

The Broadway Rose Theatre, a non-profit musical theater in Tigard, offers summer youth educational programs:

2010 Summer Drama Camps for ages 8 - 11

"Aladdin" and "Cinderella"

This summer we will offer two exciting drama camps for ages 8 - 11 years old. The campers will experience all aspects of theater, from improvisation and theater games to technical and performance skills. These skills are put to the test when the campers perform in the ensemble of one of the Children's Theatre Productions.

The 2010 camp dates for Camp One for ages 8 to 11 will be July 5 - July 13, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., July 14 and 15 10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m, and July 16 - 17, 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. including performances in "Aladdin". The instructor will be Megan Murphy.

Camp Two for ages 8 to 11 will be August 9 - 17, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., and August 18 - 21, 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. including performances in "Cinderella". The Instructor will be Joe Theissen.

Each camp will be held at the Deb Fennell Auditorium, 9000 SW Durham Road, Tigard. The cost for each camp is $225.00 (space is limited). 2010 Summer Teen Workshop

""Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Directed by Isaac Lamb, Musical Direction by Mont Chris Hubbard, Choreographed by Amy Beth Frankel.

This intensive 3-week training workshop is designed for students (age 12-18) who are serious about pursuing musical theater performance. Participants will get real-world experience by rehearsing and mounting a full-scale production of the Broadway hit "Big River", winner of 7 Tony Awards!

Based on Mark Twain’s novel, this Tony Award-winning musical follows the adventures of one of America’s best-loved literary figures, Huck Finn, as he makes his way along the mighty Mississippi. Join the irrepressible Huck on a musical journey as he helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom. Big River is a hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming celebration of pure Americana, with a jubilant score of Cajun, gospel, folk, country and blues by country music legend Roger Miller.

Workshop: Monday-Friday, July 12 – July 28, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Public Performances: July 28, 29, 30, & 31 at 2 p.m. & July 30 at 6 p.m. Workshop and performances will be held at The Broadway Rose’s New Stage at 12850 SW Grant Avenue, Tigard

Open to ages 12-18 Space is limited. Tuition: $500 * a limited number of need-based full and partial scholarships are available. Some scholarship funds provided by Norb and Leah Murray. Contact Emma at 503-906-2378 for an application.

Auditions will be Monday, June 21, 10 am – 2 pm and Tuesday, June 22 from 10 am – 2 pm by appointment only at The Broadway Rose New Stage, 12850 SW Grant Avenue, Tigard. Potential students will be auditioning in groups of 10-15 kids per hour. All ethnicities strongly encouraged to audition.

Auditions will be composed of group activities, games, and each auditioner will perform a 2 minute solo piece of their choice: consider a song (bring sheet music in your own key), a monologue, a dance, performance art, even stand-up comedy!

- Please bring your theatrical resume (or you can list your experience and training on the audition form).

- Please bring a recent photo or headshot.

- Dress for easy movement and modesty. Please wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, easy to move in. Athletic shoes are ideal. No high heels please.

- Bring your calendar to list conflicts.

- Please arrive a couple of minutes before your appointment to give you time to complete your audition form.

- Please limit your solo audition piece to 2 minutes only.

Auditions are to determine the enrollment of the workshop. Casting of specific roles will be determined once the workshop has begun. All workshop members will have a role in show.
