position summary:

SUMMARY: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer for the nConnect NW and reports to the nConnect NW Board of Directors. The Executive Director oversees and carries out all organizational operations of nConnect including board relations, human resource management, program planning, program and organizational development, implementation and management, financial management, fund development, public and partner relations and asset management. nConnect is a relatively new organization and in this early stage of its development, the Executive Director will play a detailed, hands-on role in all of these responsibilities with limited staff support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

1. Board Relations. Provides the Board of Directors with information, guidance and support that leads to effective planning and policy-making. Assures that Board meetings are scheduled and planned with the Board chair and that Board members are informed about issues affecting the organization and programs. Keeps the Board aware and informed of developments and decisions affecting the organization, policies and programs. Makes recommendations to the Board regarding new or revised programs and plans, policies and bylaws.

2. Human Resource Management. Establishes an internal organization plan that ensures maximum efficiency in administering the Board’s programs and policies. Employs, assigns work, supervises, appraises and terminates staff. Administers the personnel policies, salary and compensation plans of the organization.

3. Program Planning, Development, and Management. Works with the Board to develop and implement a strategic plan that ensures the organization achieves its organizational goals and objectives. Develops programs, assuring that programs are developed, managed and delivered in compliance with the laws, rules and regulations of funding sources. Provides administrative leadership, guidance and support, technical assistance and training to partner organizations as necessary to high quality program services.

4. Financial Management. Responsible for all aspects of fiscal management. Works with the Board by (a) giving leadership to grants management, resource allocation and budgeting processes, and (b) providing timely reports of the organization’s total financial position in cooperation with the organization’s accountant or fiscal agent. Makes salary range and benefits recommendations to the Board.

5. Fund Development. Works with the Board and partners to develop and implement a fund development strategy and operational model that provides financial stability and sustainability to the organization. Prepare grant applications and fee-for-service proposals. Seek out financial support from foundations, philanthropists and others.

6. Public Relations. Creates and maintains a favorable public image, assuring that the Board and its programs are known to the community, especially those who can benefit from its programs and those who can assist the Board in achieving its mission. Serves as a spokesperson for the Board; makes presentations; cooperates with other private industry councils and ensures effective federal, state and local relationships.

ADDITIONAL WORK PERFORMED:

1. Attends meetings, workshops, seminars; keeps current with trends, practices and legislation relative to the mission and goals of the organization.

2. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs wide variety of management and administrative duties necessary to the efficient management of the organization and its programs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office setting; however, external contacts necessitate some travel.

Salary / Pay Rate:Salary commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package.
Required Skills and Abilities:Qualified candidates must have: • Demonstrated entrepreneurial capabilities to lead an early-stage organization. • Strong management and relationship building skills. • Vision and passion for the organization’s mission. • Willingness to engage in hand-on tasks, as well as managing the work of others. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to inspire others. • Strong computer skills. • Financial management skills including budget and contract development and management. • Strong undergraduate education with at least a Requires baccalaureate degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in public or business administration, social sciences, education administration or related field; an advanced degree is preferred. Five+ years progressively responsible management experience in a business, education, or private, non-profit agency, including experience working with boards or commissions. Management position in directly related organization preferred.

Preferred qualifications include: • Management position in directly related organization. • Experience with the K12 education system and/or nonprofits. • Background in science or math with high tech work experience • Experience managing federal grants • Fund development and grant writing experience • Familiarity with schools in Washington state. • Connections to businesses and local non-profits in Southwest Washington. • Experience in private sector. • Advanced degree.
