position summary:

Open Meadow Alternative Schools, a multi-cultural organization, seeks to hire a full-time Development Coordinator. The Coordinator will have five primary areas of responsibility: Outreach & Communication, Volunteer Management, Database Management, Special Events, and General Administrative.

The Coordinator will serve as one of the external “faces” of the organization and will often be responsible for representing the organization in the community—speaking to individuals and organizations who are interested in learning more about Open Meadow and/or getting involved in some way. This includes public speaking events, tabling events, and other types of community outreach.

S/he will also coordinate volunteer opportunities within Open Meadow, including recruiting, training, supporting, supervising, and recognizing volunteers. The Coordinator will develop strategies to engage more community members in the mission of Open Meadow through satisfying volunteer work, deepening volunteer involvement, and increasing volunteer retention. The Coordinator will identify opportunities to engage corporate volunteers and to cultivate volunteers as both ambassadors and donors.

The Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the Raiser’s Edge database, including data entry and gift processing, mailings, etc. The Coordinator will play a key role in organizational communications in partnership with the Development Director, including the monthly e-newsletter, website, blog, and Facebook page.

This position reports to the Director of Development and will work as part of the Development Team. This position will work closely with the Executive Director, Associate Director, Program Directors, and Finance staff. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, multi-tasker who is experienced in working in a fast paced environment, who is professional yet is compassionate about the mission and values of the organization and the students it serves.

Salary / Pay Rate:29k - 34k/year
Required Skills and Abilities:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED •Commitment to the mission of Open Meadow Schools and the importance of positive donor relations •Ability to work well as an integral member of the team, while taking initiative to prioritize, plan, organize, proactively problem solve, multi-task, and effectively communicate (written and verbal) •Experience with database management, Raisers’ Edge strongly preferred •Attention to accuracy, and skill with editing and proofreading •Knowledge and skills to implement best practices in volunteer management •High level of professionalism and demonstrated experience working with people from diverse backgrounds one-on-one and in a group setting, including group facilitation •Able to effectively listen and communicate clearly •Strong skills in taking initiative, planning, prioritizing, organizing, and working with a team •Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and to teach volunteers to do the same •Able to take initiative to prevent problems, problem-solve; multi-task, prioritize & organize projects while working independently; prioritize tasks, meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail •Possess language skills including punctuation, spelling, correct usage, and ability to research information and compose memos, letters, and other correspondence to support the efforts of the Development Team •Skilled in computer operation and use of computer programs including Microsoft office suite; must also be able to use standard office equipment and set up and use an efficient filing system.
Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS •Position requires solid experience and a high level of comfort in public speaking and presentations •2+ years experience in volunteer coordination preferred •2+ years experience working in the non-profit community or education sector with demonstrated experience in community or volunteer outreach preferred •Bachelor’s degree preferred •Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus •Personal vehicle required for this position
