JOB DESCRIPTION: The Retention Project Coordinator will work at the Clark College Student Learning Center at Town Plaza. Their primary function will be to serve as mentors, to recruit first generation college students to serve as mentors, and engage in service-learning. Service-learning projects will focus on engaging at-risk ESL, ABE and GED students in service projects generated by the first generation college students. In addition, the Retention Project Coordinator will receive training and participate in National Days of Service as a member of the statewide AmeriCorps Retention Project team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATED TASKS: • Mentor at-risk adult ESL, ABE and GED students. • Recruit and advise first generation higher education students to engage in mentoring, service projects and other service-learning activities. • Train higher education students to serve as mentors for ESL, ABE and GED students • Maintain documentation of data related to student (e.g. mentor) recruitment and activities such as progress reports, and track personal activities using member timesheets • Participate in Retention Project trainings, including orientation, graduation, regional cluster meetings and others as available. • Participate in Make a Difference Day and MLK Day on campus or in the local community • Engage in personal reflection

Salary / Pay Rate:• Living Stipend of $12,000 (distributed over 11 months)
Qualifications: AA or BA/BS degree  Enrollment in Electronic Funds Transfer to receive bimonthly stipend.  Ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds.  Strong organization, problem-solving and written and oral communication skills.  Basic office computer skills, including word processing. Experience with spreadsheets/databases and desktop publishing preferred.  Enthusiasm and self-direction.
