The IT Supervisor – Data Center, supervises the monitoring of environmental equipment in the Data Center, including emergency generator, UPS battery backup power supply, data center cooling systems, building and fire security system and other alarms, sensors and emergency systems. Oversee the work the Operations team does which includes, monitoring scheduled jobs using the automated job scheduling tools, monitoring servers and assisting with Helpdesk calls. This position is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the day-to-day activities of the Information Technology Operations team. The Operations team provides 24/7 365 support of the Multnomah County data center. This position will also act as the liaison for all County Facilities work performed in the data center as well as functioning as the building security administrator. This position will fill in for staff that are sick, on vacation or at training.

Description of Job Duties:

• Supervise the services and activities of the operations staff and the 7x24x365 County Data Center facility of the Information Technology division. Ensure that hardware, software and applications problems with midrange, and server systems, are resolved quickly and efficiently and that users and appropriate technical staff are kept informed.

• Monitor and maintain the computer room environment at the County Data Center. Coordinate and supervise all facility related work and act as a communication focal point for all facilities problems.

• Oversee critical infrastructures which include system backups, offsite storage, repair/restore procedures, scheduling systems, high speed printers, tape systems, server installation, data center power and cooling, power circuit distribution, and storage devices.

• Monitor expenditures. Provide input to the Operations budget, e.g. identifying funds needed for staffing, training, equipment, software, materials, and supplies. Review, investigate, evaluate and make recommendations on new technologies for current and future business needs. Prepare service and equipment bids, evaluate bids, and recommend vendors, monitor performance of equipment and contracted services.

• Provide management assistance to the Operations section of the County Data Center by supervising timecards, coordinating work schedules, and providing input to performance evaluations. This includes movement of systems into the production environment; designing , developing and implementing new hardware/software configurations and new tools in the Data Center; and assisting Operations in automating and streamlining processes to improve service delivery, cost efficiency, and maintainability of County mission-critical systems. Develop skills among the Operations group and coordinate training and other career development opportunities for Operations staff. Develop team work within the Operations team and with other IT teams.

• Monitor and report on goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for the Operations section in support of IT divisional goals and countywide business needs. Communicate and coordinate Operations activities with other IT managers. Monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures, and provide input on service staffing levels. Attend and participate in national and regional professional group meetings. Stay abreast of new trends and technologies in the field of computer systems management and operating systems.

• Work with senior management to hire, supervise, motivate, and provide technical leadership and training to the staff of technical professionals providing operations support for county servers and applications. Coordinate and review work plans and outcomes with staff. Assist staff in developing appropriate individual goals, conduct performance evaluations, and provide input to discipline and termination procedures if necessary.

• Review and update emergency response and business continuation plans to ensure the County's ability to restore systems quickly if hardware or software fail, or in the event of a disaster (fire, earthquake, flood) which damages information systems in the County Data Center. Participate as a member of the Building Safety Committee. Participate in the Data Center planning and placement of hardware.
