Movies and Mean Group "The Secret of Kells" - July 15

This month we will be attending The Secret of Kells, a movie based on the Book of Kells (see images at http://www.snake.net/people/paul/kells/thumbnails) which is an historic version of the four gospels that is illustrated with various Christian, Celtic, and mythological symbols. It is apparently on display at Trinity College in Ireland and is considered a national treasure.

This Oscar-nominated animated feature follows a young monk, Brendan. Roger Ebert gives this lovely description: "Here is a film about a young and very brave medieval monk named Brendan, a sacred book, a storied monastery, a fairy girl, an alarming creature and a forest containing little nuts that make brilliant green inks."
