Looking for Salmon Watch Volunteer Educators

If you’d like to get outdoors and teach kids about their home waters during a one day streamside field trip this fall, simply sign up for one of the free Salmon Watch trainings listed below by emailing Sarah Oakley, the Education Programs Manager at The Freshwater Trust at [email protected]

Since 1993, The Freshwater Trust’s award-winning Salmon Watch has been an effective environmental education program and has served over 55,000 middle and high school students in Oregon. www.thefreshwatertrust.org

Enabling students to witness spawning salmon – one of nature’s great spectacles – coupled with classroom instruction and service learning projects, the program is designed to instill a deeper appreciation and understanding of the value of native wild fish, watershed conservation and environmental stewardship. During a streamside field trip, students rotate through four hands-on learning stations: aquatic macro invertebrate sampling, water quality testing, riparian hike/survey and fish biology. Salmon Watch would not be possible without the dedicated work of volunteers.

One Time Free Half Day Training Dates:

Saturday August 14th 8:30 am – 1:30 pm

Wednesday August 18th 3:30 – 8:30 pm

Thursday September 9th 3:30 – 8:30 pm

Saturday September 11th 8:30 am – 1:30pm

Other training dates in Central OR and the Mid Willamette Valley are also available!

Once you attend the training, you can sign up for one of the field stations: Aquatic Macroinvertebrates, Water Quality Testing, Riparian Hike/Survey or Fish Biology on any field trip date of your choice.
