Job Announcement Part-time Homework Club Coordinator

SUMMARY Supervise an after-school Homework Club for low-income children residing in permanent housing. Create a supportive learning environment that fosters safety and promotes the completion of homework. Help students to focus on their intellectual and social competence.

HOURS: 6 hours per week, after-school on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30 or 4:00-6:00. Position starts on Tuesday, September 14th and runs through June 2011.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plan and oversee an on-site after-school Homework Club for students in 1st -6th grades. Activities to include homework assistance, learning games, and enrichment activities that reinforce basic academic learning and social skills. 2. Confer with Resident Services Specialist and parents to address any behavior issues that interfere with the ability of students to receive the assistance they need. 3. Work with Resident Services Specialist to recruit volunteer tutors for Homework Club. 4. Provide guidance and support to volunteer tutors as needed in Homework Club. 5. Prepare activity materials for Homework Club, and be responsible for the daily set-up and break- down of the Homework Club space.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and /or ability required.

1. Minimum one-year experience and training working with school age children in an instructional environment. BA preferred but not required. 2. Ability to create structure and set expectations in an after-school setting with a wide variety of ages. 3. Must have genuine interest in promoting educational success among disadvantaged children and youth. 4. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment regarding work tasks and responsibilities.
