Childswork Learning Center, a non-profit, non-denominational pre-school located in inner Southeast Portland, is seeking an exceptional individual to lead as Executive Director.

Position Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the school and business of Childswork Learning Center, providing collaborative leadership to the staff and parent body, representing the school to the outside community, and supporting the school’s mission and educational philosophies. The Executive Director will be an effective administrator with a track record of fundraising and development success and a passion for early childhood education. The position reports to the Board of Directors.

Salary / Pay Rate:$52,000 - $70,000

Required Skills and Abilities:• Develop and manage annual budget of approximately $1 million, effectively allocating resources to ensure exceptional services • Facilitate development and implementation of annual goals and long term strategic plan • Oversee and administer consistent HR policy in accordance with federal and state law, including payroll, FMLA/OFLA administration, benefits administration, grievance resolution, staff work agreements, and performance reviews • Regular written and verbal communication with children, staff, Board of Directors, families, and outside agencies • Cultivate and engage volunteers and community partnerships; • Direct and oversee scholarship and financial assistance program • Actively manage and participation in fundraising activities with an emphasis on special events • Explore and pursue other revenue opportunities for the school, including grants, and individual and local business donations • Initiate research, surveys, and special projects for the purpose of identifying unmet program needs, and suggesting new or modified programs
Qualifications:• Vision and passion to nurture and strengthen program and mission • Knowledge of early childhood education including interactive teaching methodologies and developmentally appropriate practices • Development experience, including a passion for grant writing • Collaborative management, leadership, and organizational skills with an ability to be a team player and to foster teamwork among staff • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings, events and lead large group gatherings • Ability lead and delegate efficiently and effectively; • Experience in recruiting, hiring and mentoring staff as well as evaluating work performed by others • Promote transparency in decision making and communications and provide leadership to address and resolve conflicts effectively • Interact with children and adults in an warm, welcoming manner • Strong budgeting, business management, and financial management skills and experience * Non-profit management and early education experience strongly desired
