position summary:

Neighborhood House Parent Educator/African Immigrant: 1 FTE. Non-Exempt. Starting hourly range: $12.91-$15.50. (Position is funded through August 31, 2011.)

Job Responsibilities: Responsible for promoting and supporting the healthy growth and development of African immigrant families with children ages birth through five years of age. Primary responsibilities include program planning, delivery of parent education services, group facilitation and supervision of child development activities and program development.

Minimum required qualifications: 1. Must fluently speak and write French or one or more major African languages represented among the African Immigrant population in the area (Somali, Swahili, Maay Maay, Oromo, Arabic, Kiluba, Kirundi, Tigrina) in order to interpret and communicate as needed. 2. Bachelor’s degree in social work or child development and at least four years of directly relevant experience and/or equivalent combination of experience and education. 3. Valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation and proof of personal automobile insurance. 4. Ability to demonstrate basic skills represented in Microsoft Office. 5. Must pass a criminal background check.
