Required Skills and Abilities:• Participate in approximately 40 hours of initial training, covering all aspects of pregnancy options and general counseling skills. • Commit to a minimum of 2 scheduled 5-hour shifts per month on the Talk Line, which are fulfilled from volunteers’ homes or wherever they feel most comfortable. • Participate in ongoing Advocate Trainings and monthly meetings. • Have a deep commitment to Backline's mission and a strong belief in reproductive justice. • Talk Line Advocates must be based in the Portland area in order to attend the initial training and on-going monthly meetings. Trained Advocates serve at least two 5-hour shifts per month and must commit to one year of service.
Qualifications:Talk Line Advocates are compassionate, committed volunteers who provide direct support to women and their loved ones, before, during or after pregnancy, regardless of the options being considered. This unique volunteer opportunity includes comprehensive training in client-centered counseling, pregnancy options and reproductive justice, as well as ongoing training and support from the Backline staff, Board, and community of Advocates!
