The Tour & Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the volunteer-staffed Tour Program and managing the overall Volunteer Program. It is also responsible for recruiting, screening, placing, and providing general orientation for new volunteers as well as providing for the recognition and retention of all volunteers at the Garden.

Duties include but are not limited to: • Responding to inquiries regarding group visits and tours of the Garden as well as inquiries regarding volunteer service at the Garden • Updating tour/group reservations within company calendar and communicating to Admissions Staff • Working with tour operators and other group liaisons to facilitate smooth arrival and departures for groups • Recruiting and scheduling Guides to lead specific tours including regular public tours, private group tours, and school tours as well as scheduling volunteers for cultural festivals, art exhibits, horticultural support and other special projects • Maintaining and updating Guide website content • Communicating effectively with Guides using web, email, phone, and mail • Recruiting, screening, and placing new Guides • Coordinating and supporting introductory Guide training and mentorship provided by volunteer Guide Trainers • Attending monthly meeting of Guide-led study group (Niwa-no-Bi Kai) • Planning and implementing annual Guide Updater Workshop and Guide Forum • Providing direct supervision for all Guides • Providing for the ongoing recognition and retention of active Guides • Learning to effectively lead tours • Maintaining postings of volunteer opportunities on the Garden website and other volunteer recruitment websites, and attend volunteer recruitment events • Conduct general orientation and training for new volunteers, and schedule them for additional training as needed • Maintain accurate records for volunteers, including their contact information and hours of service, and follow up with absent volunteers • Plan and implement volunteer recognition activities and events • Annually develop and write Volunteer Program operational plan in support of the overall Garden strategic plan • Develop and write annual report of volunteer accomplishments

Salary / Pay Rate:$15-$17/HR - Commensurate with Experience;Medical, dental, 401K
Required Skills and Abilities:Requirements: • Minimum 2 years experience in volunteer management • Ability to effectively work independently and with teams on multiple, simultaneous, diverse tasks with attention to details • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to work effectively with people of diverse ages, experience, and backgrounds • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint • Flexibility to modify work schedule as needed • Demonstrated written and verbal skills, including presentation and public speaking skills • Ability to physically navigate all public pathways in the Garden Preferences: • Experience with Raisers Edge software • Experience planning and producing events
