Clackamas County Community Corrections has two openings for a COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS OFFICER 1 at the work release facilities. The work release facilities are minimum security facilities located in Milwaukie, Oregon. The department provides services and programs to facility residents and creates opportunities for positive behavior change. The program uses evidence based practices to optimize the potential for offender change.

The Community Corrections Officer 1 is an entry level position which focuses on developing the skills to maintain security and safety while monitoring the daily activities of offenders in the work release centers. Community Corrections Officers are also responsible to participate in creating an environment that supports offender change.

Competitive applicants will have excellent ability to interact with difficult populations, including conversation, mentoring, coaching offenders toward problem resolution (their solutions not your solutions) -- all with appropriate boundaries. Competitive applicants will have prior experience working with at-risk populations, customer service or other job experience that has developed skills in appropriate boundaries, empathy, structure, guidance, and coaching.

Incumbents will work face to face daily with offenders in individual interactions as well as group interactions.

Salary / Pay Rate:$2,947 - $3,723 Monthly
Qualifications:* Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, evening, and rotating work schedules. The work release center is a 24 hour operation. Most shifts are 5/8s and some shifts are 4/10s. * Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record. * Successfully pass a thorough background investigation including criminal and driving record checks. Applicants who have failed a background investigation with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office within the last 12 months will not be considered. * Ability to meet Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) various preconditions for Corrections Officer certification, including but not limited to education (High School Diploma or GED) and age (21 years of age or older) requirements. * Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a post-offer physical assessment and drug test that complies with criteria set forth by the State of Oregon Department on Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). Accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation. *Ability to become certified in First Aid/CPR Basic knowledge of: Theories of human behavior and adjustment problems of adult offenders; basic principles of social and correctional care and group work; criminal laws and criminal justice systems; rehabilitation processes, purposes and methods; operations and techniques used in security or custodial facilities. Skill to: Learn how to and control, direct and instruct offenders individually and in groups; learn, understand, interpret and apply rules with tact and impartiality; read and interpret written material accurately and rapidly; make rapid, effective and reasonable decisions in emergencies and take appropriate action; maintain accurate records; operate general office equipment, including computers; operate work tools; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and a various criminal justice agencies; communicate professionally with difficult people; support offenders in treatment programs.
