position summary:

Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East seeks a dynamic individual for the Volunteer and Family Services Program Assistant AmeriCorps position. The successful candidate will provide assistance to the Volunteer Department to ensure a rewarding volunteer experience for prospective and active volunteers and provide assistance to the Family Services Department to increase the capacity of the program to recruit, select and support first time homeowners.

Specific duties and responsibilities for this position:

Volunteer Programs - 50%

Office support:

Assist Volunteer Coordinator in fielding phone calls from prospective and active volunteers.

Send reminder emails to volunteers prior to work day and assist with follow-up calls to new volunteers after their first workday.

List and update volunteer opportunities on Habitat website.

Identify outstanding volunteers, interview them and submit an article for the website / newsletter

Assist Resource team with Special Events. [wall raisings, home dedication, kick off's]

Assist with volunteer tracking and reporting - includes data entry.

Construction Site Support:

Help to create a work environment that is cheerful, productive and inclusive of all [homeowners, regular volunteers, new volunteers and staff]

Conduct new volunteer orientations at the start of each new project and at the monthly tours.

Welcome new homeowners and volunteers to Habitat answer questions on Habitat policy and programs

Manage volunteer program tasks on site [volunteer sign-in, nametags, volunteer orientation, information table and bulletin board, first aid supplies, etc.]

Family Services Assistant- 50%

Support Family Services coordinator in the family application and selection process.

Respond to inquiries from potential homeowners regarding the selection process and homeownership program.

Organize and host Homeowner Information Meetings.

Coordinate application workshops to provide application assistance to applicants.

Maintain applicants’ files and assist with processing of family selection paperwork.

Maintain application spreadsheets

Provide continuing support to new and existing homeowners.

Assist with the design and administration of meetings, events, and programs that support Habitat partner families.

Coordinate orientation sessions for newly selected families

With the Family Services Manager, design and implement homebuyer education program that includes pre and post purchase education.

Salary / Pay Rate:$11,800 living allowance, $5,350 Seigel Education Award upon completion of service, healthcare coverage, childcare assistance available, student loan deferment available

Required Skills and Abilities:Excellent administrative, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership skills. Outgoing and enthusiastic personality. Knowledge of and commitment to Habitat for Humanity mission. Experience working with low-income families desired. Experience working with volunteers preferred. Spanish language skills preferred.
Qualifications:High School diploma or GED required.
