Full Time AmeriCorps Position Refurbishing & Tech Support Lead

 

POSITION SUMMARY Portland YouthBuilders (PYB) is a two year alternative high school and job training program whose mission is to support low-income young adults, ages 17-24, who are committed to changing their lives to become self-sufficient, contributing members of the workforce and their community. At PYB, students complete high school with a GED or diploma and develop marketable employment skills by learning to build affordable housing from the ground up or learning to refurbish computers and develop websites for non-profits and low-income families. All PYB students have the opportunity to serve as part-time AmeriCorps members and earn an AmeriCorps Education Award.

 

The Refurbishing & Tech Support Lead position is a full-time AmeriCorps volunteer position in the PYB Youth Media Department. We are seeking someone who is inspired by working with young men and women who are transforming their lives through learning and service. Experience with hardware/software troubleshooting required. The incumbent must be comfortable managing priorities in fast paced, multi-tasking environment, be willing and able to work through conflict, and manage and teach groups of students.

 

The Refurbishing & Tech Support Lead person will work closely with staff and community partners to develop and present comprehensive technology service learning experiences for students. This position is a key to PYB's mission of community leadership and service. The work will include teaching computer refurbishing, working with low income clients and nonprofits to distribute refurbished computers, and providing technical support to students and staff.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

 

Reports to: PYB Youth Media Program Manager Position Starts: As soon as a qualified candidate is selected Length of position: 12 months (must complete 1700 hours of service over 12 months) Compensation: AmeriCorps monthly living stipend of $1250, plus AmeriCorps Education Award of $4750 upon completion of 1700 hours of service. Qualified to enroll in no-cost medical coverage available through AmeriCorps

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

1. GED or High School Diploma 2. Valid Driver's License + good driving record (for the purposes of insurance coverage) 3. Experience with hardware/software troubleshooting 4. Technology-related post-secondary study or tech industry work experience 5. Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident

 

JOB DUTIES

 

1. With support from senior teaching staff, plan and teach computer refurbishing classes 2. Coordinate refurbished computer distribution program 3. Support and maintain the agency network and computer equipped classrooms 4. Train for eventual supervision of student tech support interns 5. Provide in-class assistance to teachers and support to students during training sessions on a variety of technology topics 6. Track student attendance and performance measures 7. Collaborate with Youth Media program staff to plan learning units, service projects, field trips, and weekly schedule
