position summary:

Markham SUN School Lead Instructors, openings for 1 Instructor 15 hrs/wk and 1 instructor for 12 hrs/wk during school year (incl. instruction and prep time), both positions work 32 hrs/wk during 2011 summer program. Non-exempt.

Summary: The Markham SUN School Lead Instructor is responsible for leading after school Homework Club, Computer, and Academic Games classes as well as Sports, Theater and Art classes for elementary school-aged students. The instructor will teach academic activities in all assigned after school classes, teach summer school, and implement classroom techniques in line with best practices for extended day programming. Attend SUN evening events as needed to staff parent activity stations, and assist SUN Coordinator to promote family events to increase attendance.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience working with children/youth. Or, Associate’s degree and three years of experience working with children/youth. 2. Strong classroom management skills and natural leadership qualities. 3. Positive and enthusiastic attitude. 4. Ability to work with elementary school-aged youth, their parents, and diverse clientele (ethnic/racial backgrounds, income levels) in effective & culturally competent manner. 5. Ability to perform limited data entry. 6. Food Handler’s Permit required. 7. Must pass criminal background check as condition of employment.
