Planned Parenthood hiring two part-time staff through November

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon is currently seeking two self-motivated, organized, and dedicated field organizers to carry out a grassroots educational campaign to turn out the pro-choice vote during the 2010 election. Each field organizer will work part-time and is responsible for field programs in one or two targeted counties. Driven candidates capable of working independently to organize and motivate volunteers are encouraged to apply.

 

Field organizers can work out of our Eugene or Medford office. Candidates must be able to work evening hours and on weekends. Travel throughout the state is required.

FIELD ORGANIZER JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Title: Field Organizer Dept: PPAO Type: Temporary, 20-hours per week Exempt/Nonexempt: Nonexempt Reports to: Political Director

 

General Summary: Responsible for implementing PPAO’s 2010 Electoral Plan through November 2nd. This includes recruiting, managing and training volunteers to participate in Voter Persuasion and Get Out the Vote Phone Drives, coordinating and attending Legislative Action Team meetings, and supporting candidate campaign door-to-door canvasses. The position is aimed at turning out pro-choice voters before Election Day.

 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: * Work with Political Director to implement electoral plan including data base management, script writing, tracking form oversight, and overall accountability for recruitment goals.

 

* Significant telephone outreach for volunteer recruitment, coordination and GOTV efforts required. * Coordinate with coalition partners and campaigns to plan and run joint field programs as appropriate in targeted districts.

 

* Participate in, and/or represent Planned Parenthood during phone banks, neighborhood canvasses, strategy meetings, get-out-the-vote events and other campaign activities. * Training volunteers to phone bank, write letters to the editor, drop literature, raise visibility, and turn out pro-choice voters. * Recognize and thank volunteers for their participation in electoral activities and make volunteering a fun and enjoyable experience.

 

* Track volunteer participation and voter contact work in appropriate database platforms. * Recruit, hire and effectively manage multiple interns to support the overall program.

 

* Some travel required. Access to personal vehicle is strongly recommended. * Performs other duties as needed or directed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Will provide supervision and general support of grassroots interns, teams of volunteers, and volunteer leaders from our Legislative Action Teams.

 

Education and/or Experience: Previous political, community, or campus activism or organizing experience preferred. Requires leadership and strong people skills, ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously and exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Experience with volunteer recruitment and/or volunteer management helpful. Must be able to recruit volunteers by phone and turn them out at a reasonable rate. Must be dependable, hard-working, and able to work independently with little supervision. Must be a great team member and overall fun person to be around. Sense of humor necessary.
