Now Recruiting A.K.A Science Class Leader

APPLY NOW! The Oregon Health Career Center, a local non-profit organization, is currently recruiting class leaders to teach a fun, hands-on science program to elementary school students. Classes are held after school, one day per week for 8 weeks. The Fall 2010 term begins the week of October 4, 2010.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: A.K.A. Science is a hands-on, inquiry-based, after school science program for students in grades K-6. It uses structured yet playful hands-on activities to encourage observation of the world through exploration. A.K.A. Science Class Leaders receive training in innovative teaching methods and are provided with all teaching materials.

QUALIFICATIONS: We seek applicants who are passionate about education and display a positive attitude. Previous experience with school-aged children is highly preferred. A background in science is not necessary. All applicants must be over the age of 18 and be willing to submit to a background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a temporary, part-time volunteer position. The time commitment is one hour per week for 8 weeks. Upon completion of our on-going evaluation study, you will be compensated with a $160.00 stipend. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the general duties.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: Academic credit is offered through Portland State University or Pacific University. Professional Development Units are also available.
