FolkTime, a small and vibrant local non-profit with two locations, is recruiting for a .6 experienced development officer. The agency is the area’s only peer-support community for adults with chronic mental illness. Attendees (members) self-determine activities and manage the programs. The agency has an experienced Executive Director, and an active Board that participates in annual events including an auction, annual breakfast, and more. FolkTime was founded in 1986, and a new ED recruited 1 ½ years ago. The agency has been transitioning into an era of growth, program development and expansion.This new position is being created to split duties and expedite donor development, event refinement, and agency growth.

Salary / Pay Rate:$24-$28/hour
Required Skills and Abilities:• The development officer will be responsible for creating and managing the overall fund-raising plan with a focus on developing individual donors and business sponsorship. This will involve working with the ED and Board, face-to-face meetings with donors, public presentations, and involvement with relevant meetings and events. • This position will be the lead in organizing agency events. This entails teamwork and leadership with volunteers, staff and the Board. • The officer will be responsible for direct mail campaigns with input and assistance from the E.D., Office Manager and volunteers. • The development officer will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the E.D. and Board in designing and implementing strategies to increase public visibility and involvement. • The officer will develop written materials including announcements, newsletter, brochures, event materials and direct mail pieces. • The officer will prepare reports, compile and supervise a database, analyze results and make suggestions for future activities and development plan adjustments.
Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree or higher, and a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible development experience in the general Portland area. • Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as experience in creating event materials. • Effective working knowledge of word processing and brochure/flyer design software. The position requires local travel, the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with Board, staff and members.
