Watershed Council Holds Open House

The Columbia Slough Watershed Council invites you and your family, friends, and co-workers to an open house on Thursday, September 30th from 4 pm to 6 pm. Still located at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park, at 7040 NE 47th Avenue, Portland, the Council recently moved into "new" to them space. This new space was formerly a residence that the Council renovated it as their Watershed Education Center for workspace and a multi-purpose room/classroom.

At the open house, you can tour the new facility and learn about the Council's education, recreation and stewardship programs. All year students visit Whitaker Ponds for science-based outdoor education with the Council's Slough School program. At the Open House, you can talk with Education Director Sheilagh Diez about Slough School activities.

"We are excited about moving into the Watershed Education Center. After a year of work that included new electrical service, windows, doors, insulation, flooring, and painting, we are glad to be in the new building" said Jane Van Dyke, Executive Director for the Council. "Thanks to support from volunteers, donors, Meyer Memorial Trust, and IKEA we have a wonderful and useful space and furnishings for our programs."

The Watershed Council is a local non-profit focused on the health of the Columbia Slough watershed and its communities in Portland, Gresham, and Fairview. Made up of a diverse group of neighbors, property owners, businesses, environmental advocates, recreation activists, and government agency representatives, the Council engages in education, recreation, and restoration programs for the local community.
