Neighborhood House SUN Lead Instructor- Math & Science, César Chavez K-8: 12 hrs/wk (incl. instruction & prep time). Monday-Thursday during the regular PPS school year, 2:15-4:30pm. Starting hourly range: $12.91-$15.50. Non-exempt.

Summary: The César Chavez SUN School Lead Instructor is responsible for teaching after school math and science classes, including but not limited to aka Science, Junior Achievers, and Lego Robotics for elementary-aged students in grades 4-8. Classes may vary for each SUN School term. Position will create lesson plans for classes listed above to ensure class content is organized and ties to school’s curriculum; manages student behavior in a way consistent with César Chavez’s SUN student expectations. Position leads group of 40 SUN School participants during rotation period at the start of each program day. Record daily attendance of respective SUN School classes and attend SUN evening events as needed to staff parent activity stations.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience working with children/youth. Or, Associate’s degree and three years of experience working with children/youth. 2. Strong classroom management skills and natural leadership qualities. 3. Positive and enthusiastic attitude. 4. Ability to work effectively with K-8th grade youth, parents and diverse clientele (ethnic/racial backgrounds, income levels) in culturally competent manner. 5. Must pass criminal background check as condition of employment.
