The Vice President of Development joins the OMSI team at a pivotal time in the organization’s history. The VP will help realize and shape the strategic vision for a future campus that will be a center of excellence with a focus on sustainability and community engagement. We see this as a strong platform to drive our next phase of growth and attract major donors to the organization.

The Vice President of Development works in a highly creative, collaborative, team environment with a strong sense of mission. She/he must be able to think strategically, work effectively with complex and challenging issues and ideas, and at the same time be organized and appreciate the importance of support systems and attention to operational details.

The ideal candidate possesses an entrepreneurial and creative spirit in developing new strategies that put the “wow factor” into OMSI. An inspiring, charismatic, well-networked relationship builder, the new Vice President easily influences public support for OMSI. The ideal candidate is an aggressive fundraiser who is heavily results driven and comfortable making large asks. The Vice President is a catalyst for funding excellence and sees the importance of bringing national fundraising best practices to OMSI. She/he is not afraid of trying new trends, testing new models, and taking calculated risks.

Salary / Pay Rate:DOQ + Excellent Benefits
Required Skills and Abilities:• Strong working knowledge of development and fundraising strategy and methodology for cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting donations. • Strong skills in developing, monitoring and controlling the development business plan and budget. • Comfortable utilizing technology to develop tight systems and creative strategies in new media. • Excellent writing and public speaking skills. • Knowledge of maximizing fundraising database systems. • Ability to build and lead an effective development team. • Ability to be creative and innovative when developing strategies while managing metrics tracking systems.
Qualifications:• Minimum 5 years development experience with a record of successful career growth leading to significant management responsibilities in a substantial non-profit organization. • Experience strategizing, planning, and implementing a capital campaign is preferred. • Demonstrated ability in financial and program management. • Bachelor’s degree; advanced business and fundraising training desirable or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
