Library Friends Book Sale, October 8-11

Oregon's biggest used book sale will be the weekend of Oct. 8-11 at 1205 NE 33rd Ave. at Sandy Boulevard.

Held by the nonprofit The Friends of the Multnomah County Library, the 37th annual sale offers an estimated 100,000 items, including good quality books, CDs, DVDs, videos, audio books, sheet music and records.

Hours are 6 to 9 pm Friday -- members' night, 9 am to 6 pm Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm Sunday and 9 am to 3 pm Monday -- half price day. Memberships are sold at the door Friday.

Most books are priced at $1.50. Children's materials start at 50 cents.

Free on-street parking is available nearby, and the No. 12 bus serves the site.

No scanners, cell phones or other electronic devices to seek book information will be allowed on the floor Friday. Devices will be allowed at tables on other sale days for checking one item at a time. One box of books at a time will be allowed on the floor and customers may store boxes at a depot while continuing to search.

Friends' memberships are $30 for individuals and $45 for families

Proceeds from the sale and other donations to the Friends support library programs and campaigns to pass the five-year library levies that provide more than 50 percent of operating funds.
