1000 Friends of Oregon is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to working with Oregonians to enhance our quality of life by:

•building livable urban and rural communities

•protecting family farms and forests

•conserving natural and scenic areas

The legislative intern will work primarily with our Field Organizer to build grassroots support for our 2011 legislative agenda and implement our outreach plan statewide. Ideal candidates for this position will have a strong interest in grassroots organizing, land use policy and implementing strategies for building livable communities. The position requires 10-15 hours/week with some of that time during afternoons or early evenings, though the exact days are flexible. The term of this internship is from November 2010 through the end of the 2011 legislative session in June 2011.

The primary responsibilities for this internship will be to:

•Digest and summarize legislative happenings for use in newsletters and action alerts;

•Track & generate attendance for legislative town halls in targeted districts statewide;

•Assist in planning and publicizing educational events about Citizen Lobbying and our Legislative Agenda;

•Assist in publicizing and outreach for coalition lobby days;

•Follow-up with citizen lobbyists;

•Provide support to policy staff to organize advisory committee meetings;

•Assist in database tracking of volunteer participation.

Salary / Pay Rate:Unpaid
Required Skills and Abilities:Commitment to the goals and vision of 1000 Friends of Oregon; Strong written and oral communication skills; General understanding of the political landscape and the ability to connect what you know with our goals; Campaign experience in electoral, legislative, or equivalent field efforts; Proven history of successful event planning and organizing.
