Exhibit Designer

Do you have experience in designing exhibits, environments, and graphics in two and three dimensions? OMSI has a new opening for a full-time Exhibit Designer who will provide overall design package from concept to production drawings for permanent and traveling exhibits, create detailed fabrication drawings for overall design package from concept to production, design prototypes for visitor testing and proof of concept mock-ups, work with in-house shop leads, engineers, and cabinet makers, collaborate with other core team members to ensure proper fabrication and installation occurs, develop design efficiently with respect to budgets and schedules, follow up through fabrication and installation process, and maintain quality of product per institutional standards.

The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of the design and production processes, ability to create detailed shop drawings, demonstrated excellent organizational and project management skills with self-initiative to prioritize multiple projects in order to meet individual and the department’s -related deadlines, demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication and customer service skills to work effectively with people of diverse talent and background, demonstrated excellence in problem solving and analytical skills with attention to details and accuracy, demonstrated strong leadership skills with the ability to promote teamwork, collaboration and leading teams on creating small scale exhibits, working knowledge of two- and three-dimensional design, demonstrate proficiency in sketching, computer aided design (CAD), and Adobe Creative Suites applications (expert knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator), ability to create, coordinate, and perform design presentations to internal partners and external clients, ability to work with other designers as team member and other department staff as work group member, working knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) and computer graphics applications, ability to work with vendors and freelance designers, and ability to communicate science principles.

Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Exhibit Design, Environmental Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, or Architecture or equivalent combination of education and experience, a minimum three years experience in exhibit design or similar field, and pass pre-employment checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks.
