Backline Seeks New Board Members!

Backline works to promote connection, conversation and support around all aspects of pregnancy, parenting, abortion and adoption. We understand that decisions about pregnancy can be complex, and believe that every woman should have the resources and support she needs to make the choices that are best for her life. Based in Portland, Oregon, Backline offers national programming including a toll-free Talk Line staffed entirely by volunteers.

Backline is currently seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Directors. Candidates should be committed to Backline’s mission and have a strong personal or professional connection to pregnancy, parenting, abortion and/or adoption. Board members can be located anywhere in the United States so long as they are able to fully participate in board duties and meetings. Board members will help expand awareness of Backline’s work, build our national base of support, and strengthen capacity of this primarily volunteer-run organization. We are particularly seeking people who can contribute skills, energy and leadership in fundraising and development, marketing, governance, and program planning.

Required Skills and Abilities:Every Board Member is expected to make the following commitments: 1.Be an ambassador for Backline and our approach to pregnancy, parenting, abortion and adoption issues, in your community and networks. 2.Make a personally significant annual donation to Backline. 3.Participate in bi-monthly board meetings (in person or by teleconference), and attend an Annual Retreat in Portland, Oregon. 4.Be an active member of at least one Board committee, including participation in monthly calls or meetings. Current committees include Governance, Program, Fundraising, and Public Relations. 5.Divulge all potential conflicts of interest, especially in regard to fundraising. An initial Board term is one year.
