Basketball Coach for 4th and 5th grade students at SHINE Community Program

Help make a difference in the lives of the children in our community! The SHINE program at Barnes Elementary provides engaging after school programs for local kids.


Position Title: Basketball Coach


Purpose: To provide an opportunity for fourth and fifth grade students to learn the skills of basketball and sportsmanship in an informal setting. The main purpose of this after school program is for the students to learn the fundamentals of basketball technique and to have fun working in a team.


Responsibilities: • Assist fourth and fifth grade students in learning the basics of basketball • Encourage teamwork and positive sportsmanship • Act as a positive role model for students • Communicate clearly and effectively with students, teachers, and faculty


Qualifications: • Basic knowledge of fundamental basketball skills • Enjoy working with children • Sensitivity and openness to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures • Ability to work as part of a team • Reliable and punctual • Preference given to those that have experience with children.


Commitment: • The eight-week session begins January 31st and runs through April 1st • Basketball “practices” will be Thursday and Friday from 3:50 to 5:00 • There are no games
