position summary:

The primary role of the marketing and communications director is to increase the awareness of the ministry and mission of Open Arms International (OAI) both locally and nationally with the goal of broadening the donor base and increasing donations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide regular communications with donors via: - Quarterly full color newsletters - Monthly appeal letters - Bi-weekly e-Blast updates - Monthly receipt mail - Ensure timely prayer support for ministry needs via regular emails to the prayer team.

Expand OAI’s exposure in the community by arranging speaking engagements for the founders and board members or other staff at churches, community groups, seminars and conferences.

Maximize the impact of the Internet for awareness building, constituent communications and increased donations by: - Providing regular updates and refreshes to the OAI website - Making regular posts to the OAI blog, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts and other social media sites

Drive the creation of new print collateral for the ministry including a ministry overview, child sponsorship, outreach team, planned giving, and Soul Safari brochure.

Oversee the production of compelling video pieces that tell the story of OAI.

Create awareness of OAI by getting stories written and placed in Christian magazines and newspapers, as well on TV.

Write and distribute press releases about the work of OAI and OAI sponsored events such as the Portland Good Friday Breakfast and Dine Out to Help Out™. Maintain good relations with local press and select national Christian news outlets.

Organize and maintain the OAI photo archive.

Assist in the writing and editing of grant applications.

Define and implement a methodology to track, measure and report marketing, web and other communications results to management and staff.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:A mature and growing Christian in agreement with OAI’s Statements of Faith (see website to view Statements of Faith) / Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in journalism, communications, marketing or other relevant field of study preferred / Must have (or be able to attain) a valid US Passport / Five or more years of prior marketing/communications/PR experience with a faith-based non-profit organization strongly preferred.
Qualifications:Five or more years of prior marketing/communications/PR experience with a faith-based non-profit organization strongly preferred / Experience managing the production and design of marketing materials including brochures, annual reports, and direct mail / Strong experience in managing and maintaining websites and other online marketing social media, electronic newsletters, email campaigns and viral marketing / Solid knowledge of emerging online and Internet technologies / Excellent PC skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Publisher / Knowledge and experience with eTapestry and Adobe Creative Suite a plus / Professional, pleasant and positive public image / Strong verbal and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively / Capacity to work efficiently and effectively in team situations and to be a team player is critical, as well as the ability to work independently / Solid time management skills and organizational abilities are essential / Should be detail-oriented, flexible, and decisive with the ability to organize and coordinate work, set priorities, and meet deadlines / The ideal candidate should be creative, have a passion for the ministry of Open Arms International, be high energy, hard working, and have the ability to motivate others.
