position summary:

The Grant Writer is responsible for preparing and producing, in draft and final form, grant proposals and solicitations for funding. The Grant Writer researches and recommends funding opportunities, develops solicitations and proposals for OMSI programs, exhibits, and general operating needs, prepares progress and final reports to donors, maintains donor database and associated records. Audiences include foundations, corporations, individuals, and when appropriate, government sources of funds.

Salary / Pay Rate:$36,919 - $46,149 per year.
Required Skills and Abilities:The ideal candidate will have demonstrated writing ability for a public audience and for formal proposals/reports, demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication and customer service skills to work effectively with people of diverse talent and background, demonstrated strong leadership skills with the ability to promote teamwork and collaboration, demonstrated excellence in problem solving and analytical skills with attention to details and accuracy, demonstrated excellent organizational and project management skills with self-initiative to prioritize multiple projects in order to meet individual and the department’s -related deadlines, working knowledge of office practices, procedures and business writing, ability to maintain a high degree of confidentially, demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and donor database, and experience working on teams. Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or other donor database and working knowledge of Excel is preferred.
Qualifications:Candidate will have a minimum three years of writing or related experience, Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, or a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and competency with databases and MS Windows. Familiarity with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) content is preferred. Candidate must also pass pre-employment checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks.
