Evaluation Associate

OMSI seeks to inspire wonder!

OMSI is looking for an Evaluation Associate to lead Evaluation and Visitor Studies activities while providing assistance on others. This individual will support ethical treatment of human evaluation and research subjects. Complete related training as required, initiate and/or support OMSI's evaluation process for individual projects, lead or support the development of evaluation instruments.  They will participate in the preparation and execution of data activities including literature reviews, data collection, and data analysis as assigned; compile evaluation findings, interpret data, develop recommendations, and/or write final report, and serve as a team member of OMSI divisions, projects, and committees as assigned; liaison with other divisions as appropriate for the position.  They will also proactively contribute to efforts of the division while operating autonomously with minimal supervision, and assume some evening, weekend, and holiday work.  This is a special project position expecting to run until September 30, 2008.

The ideal candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills appropriate to the position with the ability to interface well with fellow paid and unpaid staff, audiences, and partners in professional, education, and evaluation settings. Bilingual preferred – English and Spanish; Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills as appropriate to the position, and the ability to effectively work independently and with teams on multiple, simultaneous, diverse tasks with a concern for accuracy and presentation. Includes ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines.  Must have demonstrated knowledge of experimental design and data collection methods and of qualitative data collection methods and analysis.

Must also have demonstrated understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics, basic understanding of audience research, cultural accessibility and physical accessibility and safety as well as demonstrated knowledge in at least one of these areas, and basic understanding of museum experiences (exhibits and programs) and the science, technology, engineering, and math learning involved as well as demonstrated knowledge in at least one of these areas.  Must also have hands-on experience with word processing, spreadsheet analysis, database management, statistical software, computer graphics, and electronic data collection tools and demonstrated proficiency with at least two of these software types.

Must have Bachelor's degree, preferably in sciences, behavior, museum studies, education, communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience, two years experience in evaluation of education programs, exhibits, survey research, or related work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and experience working with people in a public venue.  Also must have demonstrable experience in behavioral research (e.g., literature searches, data collection, data management, data analysis, data interpretation, and data reporting).
