Elders in Action Job Announcement: Director of Development

Elders in Action is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic individual to direct the fund and friend development program of the agency. Strong human relation skills required and the ability to create positive relationships in the community for the benefit of the agency. Founded in 1968, Elders in Action, a powerful voice for local seniors, is a non-profit organization that believes the quality of life should never depend on age.

Status: Full-Time, Exempt Supervisor: Executive Director

Scope of Position: Serves as the overall development manager, working closely with the Executive Director on development and implementation of resource strategies. Responsible for developing and/or maintaining the nonprofit’s development plan.

Responsibilities: • Working with the Board and Executive Director, develops a long range, comprehensive strategic funding plan for the nonprofit. • Implements strategic funding plan, including developing and carrying out strategies to attract new donors, increase special gifts and bequests from existing donors, and soliciting major gifts to the agency. • Identifies funding opportunities from governments, foundations, corporations, individuals, and other sources. • Develops, organizes, and oversees events to build new friends and recognize current friends of the nonprofit. • Oversees operation of internal systems to support fundraising and public relations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Degree in marketing, public relations, or related field. • Demonstrated success in soliciting major gifts and increasing donor base. • Ability to relate and motivate others is a key for success. • Ability to work collaboratively in a small office environment • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing comprehensive funding plans. • Knowledge of the current trends, issues and challenges facing elders preferred, but not necessary. • Experience in working with the nonprofit sector, foundations, institutions, and corporations. • Knowledge and experience in grant writing. • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people in diverse situations and of varied backgrounds. • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects required • Experience with Raiser’s Edge Software required
