The Healthy Start Family Support Worker is responsible for promoting and supporting healthy growth and development of families with children newborn through age three.  Primary responsibilities include program planning, delivery of parent and child education services in home visit settings, advocacy, assessment, and service coordination.

JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for promoting and supporting healthy growth and development of families with children newborn through age three.  Primary responsibilities include program planning, delivery of parent and child education services in home visit settings, advocacy, assessment, and service coordination.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Develops and facilitates parent-child programs and activities including parent-child home visits, parent support and skill building groups, case management/advocacy services, in school and community based settings.

·        Implements parenting and early childhood education educational curriculums based on recommended Best Practices in family support and early childhood education.  Trains staff and volunteers on how to implement developmentally appropriate practice.

·        Provides case and program consultation to staff and community organizations regarding childhood development and parenting.

·        Encourages and facilitates client participation in program and community activities.

·        Completes accurate, legible and timely documentation of services delivered in accordance with Portland Impact's management information system.

·        Meets client service standards set forth by Program Director regarding quantity, type and quality of services to be delivered to clients.

·        Effectively works with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely meet the following requirements

·        Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in social work, early childhood education or related field. 

·        Minimum of three (3) years experience in human services or education, preferably providing early childhood education services to low-income children ages prenatal to 5 years.

·        One year specialized experience in providing parent and child development services for families with infants and toddlers.

·        Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles and cultures.

·        Ability and willingness to work as a team member and support Portland Impact's mission and goals.

·        Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

·        Ability to effectively work within a strength-based, integrated family support service delivery model.

·        Possess good organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple and varied tasks.

·        Flexible, dependable, team player.

·        Computer skills including familiarity with contemporary software.

·        Willingness to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and occasional weekends.

·        Posses a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Bilingual (English/Spanish).

·        Parents as Teachers (PAT) certification or knowledge.
