Edible & Medicinal Plants

The Arctos School of Herbal and Botanical Studies seeks to connect people to the natural world in a holistic and vital way. We also seek to connect people with each other: In a society that fetishizes money and expertise, providing healing care within our communities can be a radical act.

Come along on our upcoming walks and hikes, or check out http://arctosschool.org/ to learn about our 2009 Apprenticeship Program. Classes are sliding-scale so that non-profit workers and others on a limited budget can join in as well!

Mountain Walk -with Missy Rohs Tuesday, August 12th, 9am-5pm Come see a spectacular assortment of medicinal herbs, including Arnica, Corn Lily, and Pasque Flower. We’ll talk about healing uses, as well as magical and emotional connections with plants. There’s no better time to meet our native mountain herbs, so take the day off to play and learn! Carpool will meet in SE Portland. **Registration required** by August 9th -- email [email protected]. Cost: $30 (sliding scale available)

Urban Edibles in Autumn -with Gradey Proctor Sunday, August 24th, 10am-1pm Ever wonder if you can eat that weed coming up from the crack in the sidewalk? Or those nuts looming over the fence from the neighbors’ yard? Well, this class will be an exploration in plant identification and how to prepare and eat nutritious wild and not-so-wild foods. Bring along water and a snack. All walking speeds welcome! Meet at Tandem Coffee (SE Division at 31st) Cost: $15 (sliding scale available)
