Kelly SUN Internship: Extended Day Activities and Volunteer Assistant

The Sun School Extended-Day Activities and Volunteer assistant will work the SUN School manager and Extended Day Coordinator to provide opportunities for enrichment classes and activities after school. In addition the program occasionally provides opportunities for activities during school in-service days and evening family opportunities. The SUN School Extended-Day Activities Assistant will help the Extended-Day Activities Coordinator establish relationship with colleges, high schools and other partners to recruit volunteers and interns for SUN. We are looking for someone that can committ 10-12 hours per week.

Job Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to):

oIn consultation with the SUN school manager and Extended Day Coordinator, help design and implement the after-school program. oIn cooperation with the SUN school manager and Extended Day Coordinator, hire after-school instructors, and establish relationship with colleges, high school and other partners to recruit volunteers. oHelp supervise volunteers ensuring accurate and timely record keeping, quality teaching, acceptable class management and positive relationships. oEnsure that instructors have necessary materials and keep supply closet organized. oCommunicate with parents. oAssist in designing, distributing, and processing registration forms. oAssist Extended Day Coordinator with staff training, SUN events, data entry and outreach.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications: oHave some experience in working with low-income youth; oAbility to effectively work within a strength-based, integrated youth support service delivery system; oAbility to document work continually and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; oPossess strong organizational and time-management skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks; oSensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures; oWillingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Portland Impact. oFamiliarity/experience with Microsoft Office software and basic computer programs.
