Make a difference and gain teaching experience! SE Works is looking for a creative and resourceful individual to serve as the Instructional Aid for our English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. The preferred candidate will have experience and/or interest in teaching English as a second language, strong organizational abilities, and excellent interpersonal communication skills. This is a part-time AmeriCorps position (approximately 12 hours per week for 10 months); this person will serve from October 2008 to August 2009.

Position Summary: The ESL Instructional Aid tutors adults studying English as a Second Language (ESL) in SE Works’ Community Learning Center (CLC). The member will facilitate one-on-one tutoring sessions and small classes (3-5 participants) that help students improve skills in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English. In addition, the member will develop learning plans that reinforce student learning goals and needs, as well as help students acclimate to their surroundings.

Salary / Pay Rate:$1250 Education Award
Qualifications:Requirements: 1. Must be at least 18 years of age. 2. U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. 3. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award. 4. Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying. 5. Submit to a criminal history background check and National Sex Offender Registry Search. 6. Regular and reliable attendance.
