position summary:

The Theater Intern will work with the Programs Team and the Box Office, Membership and Development Departments on the creation, planning and implementation of the fall 2008 performance events for the Portland Children’s Museum. Internship opportunities include both management and performance opportunities. Internship will be documented by intern through words, drawings and photographs. Final portfolio will be submitted for Museum archives.

Duties will include but are not limited to: - Researching and booking performers - Designing and creating theater based activities - Teaching artist opportunities with young children in museum settings - Creating visual collateral for performance events - Individual performances at museum events, including Bob the Builder

Benefits: The intern will learn about the workings of a mid-sized non-profit organization first hand. Students contemplating work in Educational Stage Management, Company Management, or Special Events/Marketing Management will find the work especially relevant. At the end of the internship, the supervisor will provide a written performance evaluation and, if requested, a letters of recommendation. Depending on the type of internship and the policies of the intern’s college or university, the intern will be compensated with academic credit.

Duration: This internship is available year-round and requires a commitment of 15 hours/week for a minimum of 15 weeks. Scheduled vacations will be accommodated.
