Free Class for Caregivers of Older Adults: Starts Oct. 15th

Free Caregiver Class Offered In Downtown Pdx

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

1:00 to 3:30 p.m Wednesdays, starting Oct. 15th

(October 15, 22, 29 &  November 5, 12, 19) At Zion Lutheran Church, 1015 SW 18th, Portland, OR. 

This six-week course has been shown to:  improve caregiver self-care and communication skills, reduce caregiver guilt, anger and depression; and increase use of community services.  Class topics and materials include:

--Stress reduction, self care & understanding depression ·      

--Helping memory-impaired elders 

--Making decisions about services and care facilities, hiring help, driving, and legal and financial issues

--Effective communication with family members, doctors etc.

The class was developed by Legacy Caregiver Services, and is sponsored by Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries in partnership with Northwest Portland Ministries, and funded by grants from Wheat Ridge Ministries and the Zion Endowment Fund.   Class leaders are Gertrude Welsh and Alice McCarthy.
